| "Please, Democrats, Attack, Attack, Attack" |
Paul Begala, a permenant fixture on the set of CNN, offers this strategy to the Democrats: "Please, Democrats, Attack." While we considered posting this in the 'Media Attacks' section, Begala posted this farcical piece on the Huffington Post site, so, given that he's cleary a Democrat, we decided to post Begala's misguided advice in the 'Democrat Attacks' section instead.
To be fair, Paul Begala never said that Democrats should engage in the ever-so-typical ad hominem attacks that we all dislike, though he used such tactics in his piece (we use that term loosely). Perhaps he wants Democrats to "attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack...attack" on the issues, something all Americans would welcome. But after reading this nonsense (and after changing the channel from CNN to FoxNews once the convention speeches were over, given that CNN puts Begala on every chance they get, whose rhetoric sickens me), I couldn't help to recount President Johnson's political attack ad back in 1964 - Daisy - "The stakes are too high for you to stay home." Sound familiar? Hillary used a similar line during the most recent Democratic convention: "Nothing less than the fate of our nation and the future of our children hang in the balance." Granted, there is nothing wrong with politicians trying to scare us; hell, the Republicans do it all the time, though I was surprised to not hear Rudy, "America's mayor," use "9-11" in his most recent RNC speech. But to suggest that either party "attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack" is ridiculous and will not be tolerated.
We hope both political parties ignore CNN's commentators and simply stick to the issues that we most care about. Neither Paul Begala nor his advice is one of them. America (and CNN) deserves better.
